Your residency is tailored to your artistic and aesthetic focus for the duration of your stay, and the outcomes you wish to achieve. Here, you can explore possibilities and materialize ideas. Your residency can be a period of transition, dedicated to experimentation, research, and new techniques, or a time of realization, focusing on creating the tangible results of your artistic process.
Residency durations range from 2 weeks to 4 months.

The studios
The studio was an old aviary converted into 5 equipped workshops, with facilities for printmaking, ceramics, wood, metal, sculpture, installation, drawing, painting, photography, and bookbinding. Artists can develop projects using various mediums and a combination of technologies. For more information about our equipment, download our Equipment List.

The quietest and cleanest space in the building. This room is dedicated to desk research and digital work, using only clean materials that do not contaminate the environment. Here you will find our Arts and Design Library.

With all the facilities and equipment to perform techniques such as printmaking, screen printing, painting, analog photography, cyanotype, and drawing, this workshop is set up for working large format in most printmaking techniques.

Fully equipped to take a break: heat your meal, have a coffee, read a book, do some sketches, or discuss the meaning of life and the universe.

Hammer, cut, screw, bend, weld, drill, sand, sharpen, engrave, squeeze, sculpt, glue, break, fix, mould, spray, plane, grind. Rocket science is allowed!

A place of chemistry. Here you can experiment, research, and create using ceramic techniques, with a full suite of equipment for working at both low and high temperatures.

Your Stay
Aviario Studio has dedicated accommodation in the centre of the nearby town of Ferreira do Zêzere, less than 2 km from the studios.
The accommodation is a fully equipped house comprising a living room, kitchen, bathroom, WC, 3 individual bedrooms, wi-fi, and paved outdoor area.
Supermarkets, a fresh produce market, pharmacies, a post office, a skatepark, a public swimming pool, and several cafés and restaurants are all within easy walking distance.
Within a few kilometres, you can experience some of Portugal’s most stunning natural landscapes, including the beautiful Zêzere River, forests, rolling hills, and the important historical town of Tomar.
Coimbra, Portugal’s ancient capital, is less than an hour’s drive away. Lago Azul, host of the World Wakeboard Championships, is a 10-minute drive.
Regular bikes are available for residents, while electric bikes can be rented in the city center.
